The Beatles would break up that year, as would Simon and Garfunkel and the Supremes. There weren’t many signs at the start of the decade. Never before had popular music gone through such a complete transformation over a 10-year stretch.Īs 1970 was ushered in, few could have imagined where we were headed next. The 1960s began with crooners like Paul Anka, Connie Francis and Frankie Avalon populating the top 10 of the Billboard singles chart, and ended with the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
